Ron Hobgood has pursued an interdisciplinary education focusing on historical archaeology, military history, and cartography. He holds two Bachelor’s degrees from Jacksonville State University. In 1996 Mr. Hobgood received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography; and in 1998 he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. In 2005, Mr. Hobgood received a professional certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from Georgia State University. He is currently completing his Master’s degree in Anthropology at Georgia State University. Mr. Hobgood’s graduate research focuses on historic archaeology, especially the interaction of the US military and Native Americans in the Southeastern United States.

Mr. Hobgood has been interested in military history since his youth. Originally his interest focused on the major battles, units, and commanders. However, after serving in the military he became interested in the experiences and daily lives of the common soldier. This motivated him to pursue a career in historical archaeology.

Mr. Hobgood has been a member of the Brockington and Associates team since 1999. During this time he has worked on numerous archaeological excavations throughout the Southeast.

He has also conducted archival research, historical background studies, and GIS analyses. Besides working on prehistoric and civilian historical archaeological sites, Mr. Hobgood has worked on a variety of military sites. These sites include forts, battlefields, encampments, and ranges. In addition to dedicated military sites, Mr. Hobgood has worked on military industrial sites such as antebellum mines, a Civil War iron furnace, and a Civil War powder magazine.
